Alvin McClure, Construction of Mineral Peak Lookout >> Alvin "Snuse" McClure built the present lookout on Mineral Peak in the 1960s. Located on the Missoula Ranger District, Lolo National Forest. The District Ranger was Bill Samsel, until late 1961 or 1962. >> The Civilian Conservation Corps built the first lookout in the 1930s. >> The early maps name the mountain "Fulgurite Peak" - rock fused by lightning (Missoula District Map dated 1950) >> Based on an interview by Libby Langston, Missoula District, on August 13, 2008 |
