White River National Forest, 50th Anniversary 1941 >> The Golden Anniversary of the founding of the White River National Forest was celebrated in Meeker, Colorado on Saturday, October 11, 1941. Abot 3,000 citizens of western Colorado attended >> The celebration started Friday evening with the opening of "Days of 91" including a pioneer bar, old-time dance hall with fiddlers and games of chance. There was pioneer's parade on Saturday -- Frank E. Loring, an early day ranger; and current Forest Supervisor Ed Wright and Ranger Ray Taylor. >> Governor Ralph L. Carr gave a welcome address. Regional Forester Allen S. Peck also talked. The main address was by John T. Barnett, President of Colorado Planning Commission. |
