Smith Diary, August 2, 1909 - June 30, 1910 >> Position: Forest Guard, Floriston, CA (10 miles east of Truckee, Tahoe National Forest) >> August 3 - Got out at 6:30 am went out on lookout, came in at noon and got phone that large fire at Boca got started. 1:30 arrived and at 3:30 found fire; found 17 men from Ice House; got fire under control; Fire was caused by hobos or spark from engine; Stood guard on fire all night >> September 24 - Made trail to Big Meadows; Ran out line >> October 5 - Went on high lookout south of Mill Camp >> June 1, 1910 - Left Schafer Mill went to Truckee to meet District Ranger Sieverton forester Mitchel, Schauer Becker and Guard Elmgren and went by trail to Tahoe City |
