Harvey Robe Collection of Newspaper Articles 1936-1999 >> A Family of U.S Foresters -- full article with photographs of Mrs. J. B (James Burton) Stephenson wife of the district ranger at Descanso, Cleveland National Forest. Mr. Stephenson has worked for the Forest Service starting in 1906. Also the wife's 30th anniversary as a Forest Service wife. She has raised seven children. "Up the trail a bulging-bellied burro picked his way, two sun-browned babies peeking out over the tops of small packing boxes strapped to his side. The "Lady of the Forest," watching the swaying nursery followed on horseback, holding the littlest forester in the crook or her arm." Served 36-48 hour shifts as dispatcher. For six months in 1921 she was at March field in air patrol work for the Forest Service. San Diego Union, Sunday March 1, 1936 (It looks like 1986, but it checked out to 1936!)
