Roswell Leavitt Diary, Nov. 1, 1930 to Oct. 31, 1931 >> Junior Forester Beaverhead National Forest, Dillon, MT >> Four Diary Booklets. >> November 1, 1930 - Driving from Browning, MT to Kalispell and then to Dillion, Montana >> November 3, 1930 -Left Kalispell on bus for Missoula; Train to Butte and then Dillon. Arrived 11:40 PM >> November 4, 1930 -report to Beaverhead Forest Supervisor James C. Whitman for work. Left Dillon with Assistant Supervisor E. D. Sandvig to Jackson Ranger Station to help with marking of timber and boundary traverse. >> March 31, 1931 - Left Dillion for Spring Ranger Station to help scale logs on Cherry Creek Sale. Unload grub and bed at Spring R.S. Scaled 185 logs. >> June 6, 1931 - Scouted timber below camp and west side of creek. Found bug indications in second patch down. To Watson's Camp >> June 9, 1931 - With [Elers] Koch [Region Office] and [G. M.] DeJarnette [Northern Rocky Mtn Exp. Station] went to Jost's camp on Lobo Creek. Looked of Lobo drainage. Decided only one basin looked to have enough trees to treat. >> July 28, 1931 - Left Sylvanite (Kootenai National Forest) 9:30 with 25 men headed for spot fire on ridge in Meadow Creek. >> September 30, 1931 - With McGillivray left Libby at 8 Am, drove to Ramsey Creek Trail on Libby Creek Road. Cruised stringer of white pine. >> Appears to have transferred to the Kootenai National Forest, mid-year |
