Eustace A. Woods >> 15-pages. Entered the Service as Forest Guard in 1906 on the Flathead Forest. 1907 Assistant Ranger Elk Creek Ranger Station a few miles southwest of Augusta (Lewis and Clark Forest). 1908 to Piegan Ranger Station adjacent to Glacier Park. Arrested railroad Great Northern Railroad foreman for burning ties. Recounts fighting a several week fire. 1914 Ranger for the Sun River District (includes portions of the present day Bob Marshall Wilderness) Tells how he moved his furniture on a hay wagon. Controversy over number of cattle grazing in the area of the Sun River Game Range. Petitions were circulated. 1917 transferred to Helena Forest >> 1940 memo from Pinchot >> These papers are copies from the Gifford Pinchot Archives in the Library of Congress. Early USFS rangers were asked to send their stories to Pinchot for his planned book. |
