Forest Service Team Memorandums for Winter Olympics 1959 Forest Service correspondence to select and orient team members selected to represent the Forest Service at the VIII Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley California in February 1960 >> July 8, 1959 From Regional Forester R-5 to Regional Foresters R-2, R-4 and R-6 --- The winter Olympics provides an unusual opportunity for advanced training and experience in winter sports administration. It is planned to have six additional Forest Service officers at Squaw Valley. Persons selected must be experienced in all snow safety work, including avalanche rescue and control and be expert skiers. >> September 4, 1959 from Region 5 Assistant Forester to Selected Team members. Notifies men selected and names Monty Atwater as team leader. Tahoe National Forest Supervisor Henry "Hank" Branagh and Truckee District Ranger Roy Saarni will be available to the Team. >> October 1, 1959 from M. M. "Monty" Atwater to Team Members -- orientation to Squaw Valley Ski area and , Snow Safety Organization and planned snow safety operations |
