First Multiple Use Plan in the Forest Service 1950 >> Report title: "Integrated Use Plan" >> In 1949-50, as Forest Supervisor on the Inyo National Forest, Neal Rahm directed preparation of the "Integrated Use Plan" for the Inyo, likely the first forest plan prepared in the nation. Very simple but basic concepts. >> Neal told an interesting story concerning the development of this Integrated Use Plan, long before the Forest Service had a formal land management planning process. Neal had discussed with the R-5 Regional Forester the proposal to develop this ground breaking effort for the Inyo National Forest. After some discussion, the Regional Forester gave him permission to do this planning work but admonished Neal with the parting comment. "Go ahead with this planning but don't let it interfere with your regular work". >> Sections of the MU Plan scanned and attached: Table of Contents and Description of Forest Resources, 25 pages; White Mn Unit, 6 pages and Inyo Mtn Unit, 2 pages |
