An Interview with Tom Snellgrove >>Oral history interview with Tom Snellgrove in Mosier, OR, October 29, 2022 >>In this interview, Tom Snellgrove recounts his decades-long career as a Wood Scientist for the Pacific Northwest Research Station. A southerner from Louisiana, Snellgrove studied forestry at Louisiana State University and started as a seasonal on the Cobalt Ranger District of the Salmon National Forest in the summer of 1965. The next year, he got his first taste of research when he was tasked with carrying out the Silviculture Lodgepole Pine Project based in Bozeman, Montana. He followed that with an impromptu road trip through Oregon and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. Once he graduated with his masters, he spurned a host of other offers to join the Pacific Northwest Research Station as a Forest Products Technologist. From there, he worked his way up to become Project Leader of the Pacific Northwest Station.
