Army Veterans Role in Developing Ski Industry Circa 1995 -- A paper written by Sam S. Alfano titled "U.S. Army WWII Veterans, 10th Mountain Division and the Development of Ski Areas in the U.S.A." -- The founder of the national ski patrol, Minnie Dole, pressured the Army t establish a mountain combat unit. Later many veterans for the 1oth Mountain Division help start many ski areas. Slim Davis was a ember of the 10 th Mountain Division later became Forest Service Director of Outdoor Recreation. -- David Brower was another member of the 10th Mountain Division. He was the first executive officer of the Sierra Club and later founded the "Friends of the Earth." |
