Summary |
Your ..... Wayne National Forest, Volume Three >> This is the final collection of the author's weekly outdoor newspaper columns written while he was Supervisory Forester for the Marietta Unit of the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio. >> The weekly writings began in January 1981 and ran until September 1990 and comprised nearly 500 columns total. This final book covers the years 1987-1990. >> The three books are intended to serve as a historical look at the activities that were occurring on the national forest during those years. They also cover national, regional, and statewide natural resource and outdoor items of general interest during the 1980s. And they highlight the efforts of employees and local residents, who were involved in caring for natural resources and the environment during those years. >> One of the most notable of the local activities was the Marietta Unit of the Wayne National Forest providing the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree in 1987. Several of the author's columns in this volume document the efforts and activities entailed in locating a suitable tree on national Forest land, as well as cutting and transporting it to Washington D.C. That event remains one of the most memorable in the history of the Wayne National Forest, Washington County, and Frontier School District. |
