Additional People Identified on Field Tour >> Man in center with orange hardhat is John McBride, forester, and longtime J. Neils, St. Regis, then Champion Intl. employee who retired in 1990 along with Russ Hudson. McBride was hired as forester by J. Neils in 1952, right after his college graduation. McBride, 90, died in 2018. >> Man on the far left is Gene Yahvah (red hardhat), also a longtime J. Neils, St. Regis, then a Champion Intl. employee who retired in 1988, but continued as a forestry consultant along with McBride and Hudson a few years later. Yahvah, 97, died in 2023. >> To the right of McBride are Ed Boyes and George Neils, and to right of Neils is Blaine Bloomgren, former asst. logging manager under Mark Schoknecht. The man to the right and behind Gene (with light shirt) is Mel Parker, forester, a longtime St. Regis, then a Champion Intl. employee. Parker, 80, died in 2017. The man to the left of McBride, with a camera strap is Clark Hammer, a long time J Neils and St. Regis employee who bought logs for the pole plant. >> The Society of American Foresters field tour, north of Libby near Sheldon Mountain, included SAF members, former railroad loggers in the area (ca 1930s), and at some stops, local citizens. |
