Description |
Carter Lake Dam Seen after Lake Level is Dropped 1998 This is one of the lakes in the Rattlesnake Wilderness that has a small dam, constructed in the early 1900s, to raise the lake level to serve as a supply of water to the City of Missoula. The Wilderness law provides for continued operation of the dams for municipal water. Mountain Water Company currently maintains the wilderness dams. The water supply is an emergency backup since the early 1980s. Missoula District, Lolo National Forest |
