Aircraft Rigged with "Mid-Air Catcher" 1975 ca. >> Airplane was used in a study to test the feasibility of retrieving a Smokejumper from a field location. The ideal was to have a balloon lift a line that the plane could "catch". The military had used this system to recover fliers down in the ocean.
