Description |
Pacific Marine Supply Company Fire TYPE N Pump 1930 Used for fire fighting. Painted red has spark plugs, glass dial, a place for a belt. Aluminum base; 4 cylinder; Pressure gauge 0 - 300 TYPE N Pump "The Pacific Pumper" Serial No. 1564. First satisfactory portable fire pump. Was first manufactured in 1925. See equipment specification sheet and history of portable pumps in 2012.5.6 archives. Patent #1686146 indicates first units were made in 1928. Type N pumps were made until 1933 when Pacific Marine started making Type Y pumps. Over 4,000 Type N were built. Type NY was a salt water pump. The Pacific Marine company began in 1927 from an earlier c1900 company specializing in fishing supplies in Seattle. Type N pumps were made by mating two 2-Cylinder water-cooled Johnson Outboard Co. motors in a pair to become a 4-cylinder engine to power the bronze gear water pump.
