Civil Defense Gamma Ray Detector (CDV-715) 1964 ca. A device designed for high-range gamma radiation detection. Manufactured by the Victoreen Instrument Co., this particular model was, according to civildefensemuseum.com, the most widely produced of all C.D. radiation instruments. It was made to be usable for either surface or aerial monitoring by radiological monitors. It is yellow and contains a dial and meter. The dial has the options, from left to right, of Circuit Check, Off, Zero, X100, X10, X1, XO.1. The meter displays R/hr 0-5. If the CDV-715 is opened we find an Ion Chamber Detecting Element, a D-cell battery holder, and a moisture absorbing dessicant packet. Photographed |
