Description |
Eagle Brand Canvas Water Bag ca 1946 A heavy duty canvas bag meant to carry water. It has red and blue graphics on the front of the bag with a majestic eagle above the "Eagle Brand Drinking Water Bag" label. The bag also reads: "No pre-soaking always ready for instant use" at the top, and "Cools by evaporation" ; "H. Wenzel Tent & Duck Co. U.S. Patent 2467792-1949* Canada Pat. 437708-1946" at the bottom. It has a red air-tight cap at the top right hand corner with a graphic of a man dressed in black and wearing a black hat drinking from the bag. It also contains the product's label, "Eagle Brand Drinking Water Bag" on the cap. The cap has a lever at the bottom, which could be pushed down, ensuring that the bag was air tight. There are two metal loops at the top of the bag where one could attach string or rope for carrying. These bags required repeated preliminary water fillings before they would become watertight. After a number of preliminary fillings, the bag's fibers would expand and less water would escape until it was secure. This particular model claims that preliminary filling is not necessary, hence "No pre-soaking always ready for instant use." The bag "cools by evaporation" because the evaporation on the outside of the bag cooled the water inside by absorbing heat from it. Photographed |
